World celebrities on Japanese ads : part 2

Followed by the last issue (World celebrities on Japanese ads), let me introduce other Japanese ads featured by the celebrities form overseas.

The most stand-out of this category is definitively the ad by a mobile phone company “SoftBank” featuring Cameron Diaz & Brad Pitt.

The TV ad is quite simple. They are walking on the streets or dancing while talking on their mobile phones. Each version plays an old hit music (ex. The Kinks”You Really Got Me”,Olivia Newton John “Xanadu”, Swing Out Sister”Breakout” etc.) as BGM, which makes it even more impressive. Well, they are not set as lovers in the ad, by the way. The partner of Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie is also appearing in a Japanese ad. She is selected for the ads of a luxury brand “INTEGRATE” from Shiseido, which is the most popular cosmetic company in the Asia region. I think the lipsticks look really good on her thick, large lips.

Seven-Eleven back to 60s (classic toy car series)

8t_3chome.jpgALWAYS sunset of the 3-chome:”, the sequel of the mega hit movie “ALWAYS sunset of the 3-chome” has just been released.

Now the Seven-Eleven is running a tie-up campaign with this movie and offering the related products.

The movie is set in Japan around 1960‘s, so there are various stuff of that time, such as the remade, retro looking packages of confectionaries, or the choro-Q cars of the models of the time and so on.

Ugly Betty on Japanese TV

Ugly Betty on Japanese TV

The first season of “Ugly Betty” has started in Japan, too. A small preview of the Japanese version is now available form its Japanese official site. Wonder how American people think of it if they check that?

In Japan those suspense drams like “24” or “LOST” are more popular – they even score higher rental-rates than movies at rental DVD shops.

24 Twenty Four

Lost tv drama

Other dramas such as “The O.C” or “Desperate Housewives” are also put on the air in Japan, but not quite as popular. (Although I like them) .

The OC

desperate housewives 3

Our own Japanese dramas are getting pretty boring nowadays, and people would enjoy American or Korean dramas more.
